Machine TranslationHow is machine translation typically used?
|
Machine translation is highly appealing when its quality is
acceptable for some purpose with little or no human revision.
But slow down! Nine chances out of ten, machine translation will
not work for you! I base that estimate on the
fact that, currently, machine translation is used for less than
ten percent of the publication quality translation produced worldwide
each year. This figure is hard to measure, but few would claim
that it is over ten percent. Why is this so? We will begin to
answer this question by suggestion that for machine translation
to be appropriate, it must be sitting on a stable "tripod".
